When the End was Near

This is how I remember the mansion looking when the end was near and just before it was torn down. The mansion was demolished in the early 1990’s. For some reason, the State of Washington decided that  this building needed to go. Ironic, considering that it was in nearly in as bad of shape as many of the other buildings on the campus.

I wish I could have looked around the mansion as an adult. From the memories I have of it from when we were kids, it was so pretty. I loved all the windows, the woodwork and that main stairway. It really is such a waste that the buildings and grounds were not maintained. Can you imagine how beautiful that place would have been if they had just kept it up. Even if it had not stayed a mental hospital, the facilities could have been used for so many other things. And the location was so ideal. Nestled there in the gateway to the North Cascades. Northern State is a great example of fraud, waste and abuse by the state of Washington.
